Kärsti Öberg Is Our New Principal at Nordic International School Ystad
The recruitment for the school management to Nordic International School Ystad, which opens its doors for autumn semester of 2022, is finalised and we are thrilled to welcome the experienced and knowledgeable Ms Kärsti Öberg as the new Principal.
Ms Öberg today works as Principal at Markarydsskolan. She has a long career of nearly 30 years as Principal or Assistant Principal for a number of elementary schools in Skurup, Göteborg and Skövde, to name some locations.
– I instantly fell for the Nordic International School’s concept. I appreciate when things are in order and like to say that you must know what’s expected, or you won’t know when you’re stepping out of line.
Ms Öberg is looking forward to cooperating with the students’ guardians and sees the importance of mutual expectations on both guardians, students, and on the school.
She has a long career as a school’s manager for elementary schools.
– I really enjoy working with students in year 4-9, it’s a lovely age and an exciting period of one’s life.
Working at a bilingual school is an exciting challenge for Ms Öberg. Being new to working with English as one of her main languages, Mr Emil Murad, Assistant Principal, who has English as one of his three mother tongues, will be a great compliment.
Another part of the concept she’s more familiar with is the dress code.
– I took part in introducing a dress code for the adults at another school, and it turned out great. To have a dress code for the students as well is such a positive thing.
Experience as a security
Ms Öberg has a passion for interacting with people and to work with school management is dear to her heart.
– I don’t like being isolated in an office, I want to join the students out on the school premises. I manage the school by joining the day-to-day rhythm. For me, the spontaneous interactions are important, and I want to be a part of that context.
With a long career of nearly 30 years as schools’ manager, Ms Öberg will contribute with great experience as she takes on the role as Principal at Nordic Ystad this summer. She is well familiar with school regulations and what she doesn’t yet know, she will find out.
– Or as I usually put it, let us find out. After all my working years I’ve come to the realisation that I have no prestige, nor need to be anyone else than just me.
Experience of starting new schools
Ms Öberg has been a part of starting new schools before, but on different terms. At that time, the goal was to gather staff from 3 closed schools and have them working at a whole new, big school. She now has the chance to open a new school once again, this time with colleagues who all has a desire and the freedom to choose to join Nordic International School Ystad from day one.
– I really am looking forward to moving into the premises, to start working with my Assistant Principal Mr Emil Murad and other staff, and most of all, meeting our students!
